Well, folks, I made it to one week here at the maum meditation center! Jet lag, communal living (sharing a tiny room with three other women, one bathroom/shower), 5 hour daily sleep, 10-12 hour sitting for lectures and meditation are all part of my new life. Adjusting to this new radical lifestyle will take some time but one immediate good result of being in this beautiful countryside is clear nasal passages. Runny, congested nose stopped! Clean air will do that for some of us, right?
I hope to post some photos of this picturesque place surrounded by Mt. Gyeryong. I learned that people have come to this mountain to seek enlightenment throughout history. I would like to learn more about this and will share with you in the future.
Students at higher levels start physical work as part of their meditation practice (ridding of false body and mind). So most of the cleaning, cooking, washing, growing food, and administrative work are done by the students. I must say the food is great. Grown organically, it's healthy and simply delicious. Well, I need to get ready to move into another tiny room as the third level training begins for me at 8 p.m. Be well until next time we meet!

I am extremely happy to announce that I didn't have any noticeable symptoms of sinusitis and allergy. I was bit concerned about different climate, environment, and time change and how they would affect my condition but so far so good. I believe that various preventive measures I took before, during, and after my trip helped a lot. One of my luggages is full of vitamins/supplements and of course, my neti pot! Conscious efforts were made to get adquate sleep, promote good digestion, boost immune system, and relieve stress through meditation and light exercise.
This trip and planned study reminded me anew how important it is to practice and develop healthy habits regularly and consistently to preserve body/mind wellness.
Next post will be at the main meditation center so please come back!

Creative, fun way to educate kids about food allergies, don't you think?

And here we are again! Start of new school year is upon us and parents are sometimes more frazzled than the kids. Certainly the anxiety and excitement coexist. There is a lot to do for the healthy kids but when they have disorders like asthma, more attention and effort are called for. The American Lung Association highly recommends that you follow these steps to prepare for the season:
Contact your child's doctor to schedule an asthma check-up appointment.
Get shots. Parents and children should be vaccinated against seasonal flu.
Make sure your child has a written asthma action plan that details the symptoms, medications, physical limitations, and instructions on what to do if prescribed medications don't improve an asthma attack.
Know the asthma emergency plan at your child's school and find out about the school's history of dealing with asthma episodes. Find out if the school allows students to carry and independently use their asthma medication.
Wish you and your children a smooth, happy start to an exciting new school year!
