My friend, Ed Howes (pictured at right as a toddler), is sweet, intelligent, and witty... qualities I admire in anyone. We are what people might call kindred spirits. We do share a lot in common in terms of likes, interests, and so on. One thing I am envious of him is his skill as a writer. I think his provocative, insightful thoughts are expressed with clarity and depth. I would like to share with you one of his blog posts I enjoyed, here.
The Law of Least Effort Fits Me Like a Glove!by Ed Howes
Some call me lazy. Some call me uninspired. Some are somewhat correct in what they call me. Of the "Seven Spiritual Laws of Success", the Law of Least Effort is my hands down favorite. As a boy of about 13 years, I went fishing with a friend, early Spring in the Northeast U.S.. It was cold and I was heavily dressed. There were two ponds, joined by a culvert under a railway bed of steeply banked cinders. I left my friend at pond one and found a bully boy fishing at pond two. Bully boy announced he did not want me fishing in his pond. He was two or three years my senior and I made no serious challenge to his fishing rights. But he had finer things in mind and threw me into the water a good ten feet or more from the shoreline.
Dressed as I was I sank like a stone and my head was immediately under water. I tried to swim, being a competent swimmer by that age. But it was no use. The heavy clothing was like a boat anchor. I held my breath and did the breast stroke to remain upright as I tried slowly walking up the steep grade until my head was above water. By then, my friend had responded to the commotion and was struggling with the bully boy, so I had a clear path back to dry land. The struggle between my friend and bully boy quickly ended with no one else entering the water very far and my friend and I walked a mile home as I shivered uncontrollably and cried about what happened to me for the first part of the walk home.
Was it then I decided I was not going to struggle again for my survival? Continue reading here....

Be prepared for the sweetest image you will ever see (at least it was for me). At the risk of portraying myself as utterly sentimental and corny, my heart just melted and saw myself and my son in the photo. So, afterward, I went to my son and squeezed him with a big hug. Well, my son rolled his eyes (he is a teenager, after all) but no matter, I was inspired....

A Scorpion Moment -Author Unknown
There was this Hindu who saw a scorpion floundering around in the water. He decided to save it by stretching out his finger, but the scorpion stung him. The man still tried to get the scorpion out of the water, but the scorpion stung him again. A man nearby told him to stop saving the scorpion that kept stinging him. But the Hindu said: "It is the nature of the scorpion to sting. It is my nature to love. Why should I give up my nature to love just because it is the nature of the scorpion to sting?"
Don't give up loving. Don't give up your goodness. Even if people around you sting. Source: inspirationalstories.com

The universal conditions of success using 7 C's by Thomas Morris:
A clear conception of what we want, a vivid vision, a goal clearly imagined.
A strong confidence that we can attain that goal.
A focused concentration on what it takes to reach the goal.
A stubborn consistency in pursuing our vision.
An emotional commitment to the importance of what we are doing.
A good character to guide us and keep us on a proper course.
A capacity to enjoy the process along the way.
To learn more about how to achieve success in any endeavor using the above approach, check out Dr. Morris' book, The Art of Achievement.

The Golden Rule states: Treat others as you want to be treated. This is one moral, ethical rule taught across all major cultures. The Golden Rule appeals to our imagination to consider how our actions impact others and invites us to act based on that premise. Consider how the Golden Rule has been articulated in different ways by the great thinkers and leaders throughout human history:
Whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.-Jesus
What you do not want done to youself, do not do to others.-Confucius (551-479 B.C.)
To do unto all men as you would wish to have done unto you, and to reject for others what you would reject for yourself.-Muhammad (c. 570-632)
What is hateful to you don't do to another.-Rabbi Hillel (c. 65 B.C.-9 A.D.)
Try your best to treat others as you wish to be treated yourself, and you will find that this is the shortest way to benevolence.-Mencius (c. 371-289 B.C.)
Do unto others as if you were the others.-Elbert Hubbard
