Inspiration January 2009

Thought for the week of 01/25-01/31, 2009

Impossible is an opinion.

Today’s guest speaker at the Center for Spiritual Living quoted it in his message about thriving in the midst of difficult times. Not just surviving but thriving (I recommend looking up these words in the dictionary and thesaurus and meditate on each word's meaning)! How relevant!, I thought. We can feel so overwhelmed and lost...that the world is coming to an end. Information we get from the external world feed into the mass doom and gloom scenario. However, this quote reminded me that it's really about my perception and interpretation of input I get from the outside world. I get to choose my opinions. So what will your opinion be about your unique challenges? Will you thrive by seeking opportunities and seeing possibilities or simply survive by staying paralyzed and hunkering down by fear? It’s your call.

Thought for the week of 01/18-01/24, 2009

I came across this “10 Secrets to Success” in the Investor’s Business Daily newspaper and found it to be a very wise, useful reminder as we look forward to the new year’s personal and professional success.
  1. How you think is everything: Always be positive. Think success, not failure. Beware of a negative environment.
  2. Decide upon Your True Dreams and Goals: Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.
  3. Take Action. Goals are nothing without action.
  4. Never Stop Learning: Go back to school or read books. Get training & acquire skills.
  5. Be Persistent and Work Hard: Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.
  6. Learn to Analyze Details: Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes.
  7. Focus Your Time And Money: Don’t let other people or things distract you.
  8. Don’t Be Afraid To Innovate: Be different. Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity.
  9. Deal And Communicate With People Effectively: No person is an island. Learn to understand and motivate others.
  10. Be Honest And Dependable: Take responsibility, otherwise numbers 1 – 9 won’t matter.

Thought for the week of 01/11-01/17, 2009

I recently received this thoughtful email from a friend and wanted to share it with you.

In case anyone is not aware, Saint Theresa is known as the Saint of the Little Ways. Meaning she believed in doing the little things in life well and with great love. She is also the patron Saint of flower growers and florists. She is represented by roses. Remember to make a wish before you read the prayer. That's all you have to do. There is nothing attached. Just send this to twelve people and let me know what happens on the fourth day. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. Did you make a wish yet? If you don't make a wish, it won't come true. Here is St. Theresa’s Prayer:

“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.”

My wish is for healing of our body, mind, and spirit…inner strength and wisdom to not only accept and overcome difficult challenges but to be transformed to seek authentic, meaningful life.

Thought for the week of 01/04-01/10, 2009

I know…with a new year we are often bombarded by well-meaning inquiry from others about the “dreaded” new year’s resolution. I am guilty of asking others as well. It’s just a part of tradition. We know not many of us keep our resolutions past March, if not sooner. It’s hard and demanding of our discipline and commitment. So why bother? Why inflict guilt and self-loathing on ourselves because we couldn’t follow through? Valid questions. But even though we are creatures of habit (however unhealthy that may be) and generally are averse to change, we also have great potential within us for positive changes to improve ourselves and our lives. So how about we just give it another shot? Give ourselves another chance… maybe with a different approach? After all, it is a new year…new beginning, fresh start, a clean slate!
I came across three articles that deal with this very challenge with different, interesting takes which I thought could be useful for us. Who knows, any one of these might be just what you needed to get inspired and get you started on the most promising, workable, and productive New Year yet!
