Remembering and honoring men and women who have lost their lives serving in the armed forces... you can actively get involved in the following ways:
-Honor fallen heroes by volunteering at a veterans cemetery on Memorial Day or any time of year. Volunteers can give cemetery tours, help with maintenance, raise and lower flags and more. Use the National Cemetery Administration website (www2.va.gov) to find a volunteer opportunity near you. -Attend a Memorial Day parade. Search the U.S. Memorial Day Parade Directory (www.vetfriends.com) to find an event in your community. -The American Red Cross is asking volunteers to honor Memorial Day by giving blood to save American lives. Call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit the Red Cross website (www.redcrossblood.org) to make an appointment to donate. -Bring a smile to the faces of deployed troops around the world by sending them a USO Care Package (www.uso.org). Each care package is $25.

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to? Be thankful when you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn. Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow. Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons. Be thankful when you’re tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference. It’s easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks. Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive. Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.

I just love stories like this. Real, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. People who follow their passion or calling with determination and discipline despite perceived obstacles. Indeed, it's the difference of perception, isn't it? Often these people see obstacles not as problems that lead to giving up but as challenges to tackle and overcome. We can't help but be inspired and encouraged to follow their example. Cheers to Hazel!

A lesson to be learned from typing the wrong email address! (teeheehee)
A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier. Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day.
The husband checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an email to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without realizing his error, sent the e-mail.
Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston, a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a minister who was called home to glory following a heart attack. The widow decided to check her e-mail expecting messages from relatives and friends... After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read:
To: My Loving Wife Subject: I've Arrived I know you're surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones. I've just arrived and have been checked in. I've seen that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was. P. S. Sure is hot down here!!

Meet Tim Storm, founder and CEO of FatWallet.com. He is a successful businessman who launched his business with just $100 from a spare bedroom in his home and created one of the top Internet businesses. What's more impressive is that he is humble, kind, has his priorities straight, and is a mentor to many by the example of how he lives his life. Here Tim shares his 10 tips for creating success in life and work:
1. Be humble. When we act with more concern for others than for our self, we can't help but succeed. 2. Core values will keep you on track. Having core values to use as a touchstone will keep you on track through uncertainty. Tim's core values are integrity, change, commitment, passion, balance, respect and FUN! 3. Expect change. Being an entrepreneur is like riding a roller coaster, complete with high highs and low lows. Don't expect it to be easy or predictable and know that change is normal. In between the ups and downs there are stages that one will go through. The key is in knowing what to do when going up the hill and what to do when coming back down. Recognizing where you are on the roller coaster cycle and taking action accordingly will help you succeed through change. 4. Maintain your balance. Create opportunities to recharge. Do what you can to take your mind off of business occasionally and set aside what preoccupies you most of the time. Like a unicycle, balance happens in all directions, forward, backwards and from side to side -- but you can't be balanced if you're not moving.
5. Don't be afraid to try.You can achieve anything by taking the first step. Baby steps add up to experience and results that one can't fathom at the beginning of the journey. Understand your limitations but don't dwell on them. Remember, it all starts from not being afraid to try. 6. Adversity happens but take action anyway. If you maintain the belief in yourself that you're going to find a way, you become unstoppable. Learn to succeed during the tougher times. Remember that races are always won on the uphill, so keep going! Don't allow someone else's restrictions to keep you from following your dream. Go in the direction that you want to go, move and grow. That's all you can really do, for it's the only thing you can touch. You can plan for tomorrow but you can only DO something today. 7. There's always a silver lining. Even in the most challenging of times, there is always a silver lining when you learn from your experiences. If you don't understand "why" in the moment, trust that you will be able to see it later. When things happen that you don't understand, learn from them, as they will come in handy later. Adversity is an absolute waste if we don't learn from it. 8. Pride leads to happiness. Do something that makes you proud! When you look at your accomplishments and see how many lives you've touched, the journey is worthwhile, regardless of how many mountains you've had to climb. 9. Charter your own course. Don't live by someone else's rules. Do what makes you happy and follow your dream, even if that means you don't fit into the normal "box". Risk being called "crazy." 10. Experience is more valuable than possessions. In the throws of great success, remember ... toys are fun but the things with the greatest value in life are not the things that one has to dust off each week. Create a life of experiences. No matter what happens, no one can ever take away the memories. When you do fun things in life, you create experiences that will help expand your view on life. If you're doing the same thing all the time, you don't grow!
