Signs and Symptoms of Rhinitis
The signs and symptoms of rhinitis are similar to sinusitis although there are some differences as you will note below:
- Runny nose and nasal congestion

- Postnasal drip
- Thin, clear/white mucus
- Watery, itchy, and swollen eyes
- Cough that gets worse at night and early morning
- Sore throat from mouth breathing (due to stuffy nose) and mucus down the throat
- Hoarseness also due to postnasal drip causing swelling of vocal cords
- Constant sneezing
- Sinus pressure and headache due to trapped air and mucus in the blocked sinuses
- Swollen, dark circles under eyes called “allergic shiners”
- Wheezing and/or chest congestion
- Decreased sense of smell or taste
- Itchy nose, mouth or throat
- Insomnia or excessive sleeping
- Persistent depression from generally not feeling well
- Irritability with mood swings
- Severe fatigue that persists despite enough sleep or due to lack of sound sleep
 - Foggy headedness or feeling “spacey”
- Fever during early stage of infection
- Diarrhea, swollen lips, abdominal pain, and skin rash in the case of food allergy
